5th grade Social Studies frieze

Nicky and IanIMG_4977IMG_4979IMG_4978

In the 5th grade the students have been busy creating the most authentic frieze of colonial Boston.  It was all three classes of Mr. Nakagami, Mrs. Ish, and Mrs. Santamaria against each other.  The results were Santamaria won the most AUTHENTIC frieze. Each class had the same amount of time; 3 days, same materials, paper, tape and glue.  Have you ever experienced making a frieze and if you haven’t you really should try it. This project was super fun, challenging and in the end we all had a really great time!!!

When Mrs. Trautman was a kid she wanted to be an author. Her father taught here at CVE, her mom was a P.E. teacher and Mrs.Trautman’s husband took over her mom’s job as a P.E. teacher. Mrs.Trautman’s favorite activity to teach is hockey. She has 2 sons named Tyler and Luke. She enjoys watching flag football with her son Tyler and she loves playing basketball with her son Luke. She went to Central Washington University. She loves to teach 4th and 5th grade the most. She likes to teach classes in the morning rather than the afternoon and the end of the day. In Arizona she used to always teach outside and it was really hot outside. She also enjoys going hiking or backpacking with her family. Her favorite holiday is the 4th of July!! Also she loves playing volleyball.  Her favorite treat is chocolate.  Her favorite fundraiser is the cheetah walk because they get lots of exercise. Her favorite color is blue and she likes her new glasses. Her favorite college team is the Everett C.C. Trojans. We love our P.E. teacher a lot. We hope she teaches here for a long time so other people can have an amazing time with the best P.E. teacher in the universe, Mrs.Trautman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cherry Valley 5th Grade D.A.R.E!

by Sara

IMG_4855Every Thursday, Officer Eaton, from the Duvall police department, comes to teach us D.A.R.E (Drug Abuse Resistance Education).  So far, he has taught us an ideal problem solving strategy that works for almost any problem (Define, Assess, Respond, Evaluate). He also left us with an amazing DARE box to put any questions in that we think of over the week. Officer Eaton is very active and likes sports. He has two young girls, a dog, and a wife.

In order to participate in the nine more DARE lessons, we have to have had our parents sign a permission slip. At the end of DARE we will receive a DARE t-shirt, and celebrate with a graduation PARTY!

The NCAA Championship Football Game

QUARTERBACKS

By Cayden and Kai

On January 12th 2015 the Oregon Ducks played the Ohio StateBuckeyes. The Ducks are ranked the number 2 team in the nation, but the Buckeyes are ranked the number 4 team in the nation. It was a crazy game; Ohio State’s star running back Ezekiel Elliot played one crazy game, he rushed for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns that game. And their first and secondary quarterbacks both were injured so their third string quarterback Cardale Jones played.  Oregon had a rough game, they got beat up. The score was Oregon: 20, Ohio State: 42.  Look it’s Mrs.Teachout and Mrs.Straily!!!

CHS Band night

By Preston and Dylan

IMG_2495

It was a dark and rainy night. We were sitting in the bleachers at Cedarcrest, waiting for our turn to play hot cross buns with the rest of the 5th grade band. When the time finally came, we walked on to field with our heads held high, ready to play our first song. When we finished our song, we waited and watched the 6th, 7th, 8th, and high school play. As we walked off the field we got a great applause and were very proud of our selves. We asked Mrs. Farley how she felt it turned out. She said, “the performance was awesome and I think we should do it again next year.”

Meet the Teachers

By Bella and Sara

Do you want to know the answers to some wacky questions about our marvelous 5th grade teachers? Our first question and answer is, “If you were in an airplane that was crash landing what would you do?” Ms. Santamaria’s amazing answer is: she would kiss the person next to her and assume that she was going to die. Mr. Nakagami’s awesome answer is: he would eat as much as he could. Mrs. Ish’s fantastic answer is: she would grab as many clothes and blankets as she could.

Our next question and answer is, “What was the best thing you ever did as a child?” Ms. Santamaria’s fabulous reaction is: she used to climb a cherry tree in her backyard and eat all of the cherries. Mr. Nakagami’s terrific reply is: he would drive the teachers crazy. Mrs. Ish’s wonderful response is: she lived with her grandparents in Thailand for a year.

Our final question and answer is what is the first job you had when you were a teen? Ms. Santamaria worked at a movie theater, Mr. Nakagami worked at a warehouse for the PX, and Mrs. Ish worked at Wendy’s.
